"MONSTER" TAJIMA SETS THE NEW PIKES PEAK HILL CLIMB RECORD!
Pikes Peak, CO. July 21, 2007. For immediate release:
Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, driving his Suzuki Sport XL7 Hill Climb Special, has conquered the monster of all racing records.
On July 21, 2007, he broke Rod Millen's thirteen-year-old record at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, climbing the legendary mountain just a heartbeat over the elusive ten-minute barrier, with a final time of 10 minutes, 1.408 seconds. Tajima's feat will be recorded in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records.
Tajima is much more than the winning driver of the 2007 Pikes Peak Hill Climb: he is also the President of Suzuki Sport, builders of the XL7 Hill Climb Special, and has dedicated his effort to breaking the Pikes Peak record since he first competed on the mountain in 1988.
The XL7 Hill Climb Special is a prototype 4-wheel-drive rally/racecar, designed specifically for the challenge of the Pikes Peak "Race To The Clouds" and the similar "Race To The Sky" in New Zealand.
Its turbocharged, 3.6-liter engine, based on the DOHC V-6 of the Suzuki XL7 SUV, produces an amazing 1007 horsepower, and the car's huge front and rear wings provide aerodynamic downforce to keep the machine on the spectacular winding gravel road at speeds approaching 130 mph.
So now that "Monster" Tajima has captured the Pikes Peak record, will he be content to retire as a winner?
"No way," says Tajima. "This is just the start of yet another quest—to break the ten-minute barrier!"
